1866年,英国为驱逐鹰洋,在香港造币厂铸造发行了一套香港银币,一元的正面是维多利亚女王像,上下英文“VICTORIAQUEEN(维多利亚女王)”,背面中央寿字纹,旁有英文“香港一元ONEDOLLAR HONGKONG”,下为纪年。因香港银元的成色低于鹰洋,需折扣使用,难以广泛推广。1868年香港造币厂倒闭,设备转售于日本。香港银币仅铸200万元。该币俗成“香洋”。

站洋”的版式繁多,据初步统计约有60多种。“站洋”从1895年开始发行至1935年停铸,共历时41年。除部分年号如1905年、1906年、1914—1920年、1922—1924年、1926—1928年、1931—1933年未发行这种“站洋”外,实际上共发行了23个年头。“站洋”从版式上看可以分为有暗记的、无暗记的,另外还有精铸版和骑字版之说。有暗记的是指在武士所拿的枪戟叉尖上有阴文“B”字,肉眼都可看到。
